Jerry Muchmore and I have been doing the necessary items for UM ("DU") while
waiting for the WA State committee process, but very soon there will be
active business for all of us.
Col. Weaver said he was mailing me a copy, which I had hoped would be
here to-day; it should be here Monday. He says it is an inch thick, with
six inches of other papers collected to back it up. He thought there may
be a jurisdictional issue, in that the federal government may want to
keep health issues under their view. That issue, essentially a legal
issue, is in the report. The executive summary is about five pages. The
summary of the health issues, he said, takes about one page. I will get
summaries to all of you and there will be a meeting soon to plan our
response.
Colonel Weaver put me in touch with Dr. Steve Hunt at the Seattle VA,
and we had a good phone discussion. He will probably join us.
Rik Reynolds sent me a reference from a peace group in Lake Forest Park
(North Seattle) called SNOW LFP, that has very good materials on uranium
munitions, and we are seeing if there is a representative or two to join
us from there. Contact people there are Dick McManus and Brenda Collier.
The full list of our group is above, except Col. Weaver; I will forward
to him, am lacking his address today. Let me know of any omissions,
please.
The funds discussion for the recent VFP grant is underway at Traditions
at 12:30 pm tomorrow, Sunday, preceding the regular VFP meeting.
We are not ready to make a request, but I'm planning to go, and VFP
members are all invited.
Jim McDermott is renewing his push to get evaluation of veteran's
health, H.R. 2410 Depleted Uranium Munitions Study Act, passed in the US
House of Representatives.
Jody Tiller pointed out a fine front page write-up "DU Issue Heats Up"
in the Fort Lewis Ranger Aug 17/ 06. I have a copy, and will make more.
